Everything You Need to Know About Perfume Refills

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REFILLABLE AND ORIGINAL PERFUMES?

Regarding the scent and longevity, there is no difference in most perfumes. The difference is that decanted perfumes are much more affordable. This is because you are not actually paying for the expensive brand and packaging of the perfume. The purpose of originals is to maximize profit even in the packaging itself. Prices among brands vary greatly. With decanted perfumes, all perfume brands are priced the same and are packaged in simple universal bottles.

WHAT IS THE LONGEVITY OF SPRAYED PERFUMES ON THE BODY OR CLOTHING?

The longevity of decanted perfumes is comparable to that of the originals, with certain perfumes being even slightly more long-lasting. Longevity also depends on each individual and the place of application. Longevity likewise depends on the choice of perfume; the stronger the scent, the more long-lasting it is. On the body, they typically last 10-12 hours, depending on the individual, and on clothing, they can last several days.

IS IT TRUE THAT PERFUME SMELLS DIFFERENTLY ON EACH INDIVIDUAL'S SKIN?

It definitely holds true that perfume smells different on every skin. This is conditioned by the skin's pH (sweetness-acidity of the skin) and also by whether we have perhaps applied some cream to the skin beforehand. Thus, the same perfume can smell very different on two friends.

HOW AND WHERE TO APPLY PERFUME FOR LONGEST LASTING EFFECT?

Perfume lasts the longest on a person's body in areas of pulse points, so we apply perfume to the wrist or neck. The longevity of the perfume is even greater if applied to the hair, which many women practice, as the perfume penetrates into the fatty cells of the scalp. Perfume lasts even longer on clothing.

WHAT DO THE TERMS PERFUME, EAU DE PARFUM, EAU DE TOILETTE, AND COLOGNE MEAN?

  • COLOGNE (eau de cologne) contains 3% to 8% essence in 70% to 80% alcohol. The scent is very short-lived.
  • TOILET WATER (eau de toilette) contains 5% to 15% essence in 80% to 85% alcohol. The scent fades quite quickly.
  • PARFUMSKA VODA (eau de parfum) contains 10% to 25% essence in 90% alcohol. Ideal for daily use as its scent lasts for a few hours.
  • PARFUM (perfume) contains from 15% to 40% essence (fragrant ingredients) in 90% alcohol. The scent of the perfume lasts very long and is the most expensive.

HOW IS PERFUME COMPOSED?

The scent of perfumes is composed of top, middle, and base notes, which form the so-called olfactory pyramid. This division is based on the classic or French model of perfume construction. Top or upper notes are those we encounter immediately after applying the perfume. They linger on the skin for only a few minutes before evaporating. Therefore, one should not choose a perfume based on the first impression, as its scent changes after a few minutes. The initial notes might captivate us, but then the perfume may develop in an entirely unexpected direction, or it might not attract us at first, yet later develops a wonderful aroma. In any case, we must wait for the base note of the perfume to come into expression. Middle or heart notes are also called the heart of the perfume. Most often, they conceal the characteristic character of the perfume, which can be woody, spicy, floral, fruity, etc. Middle notes remain on the skin for several hours, depending on the strength of the perfume. In perfume descriptions, heart notes are most frequently mentioned. Base or bottom notes of a perfume stay on the skin the longest, sometimes up to 24 hours. These are deeper scents that we smell only after about half an hour.

WHAT MISTAKES DO WE MAKE WHEN APPLYING PERFUMES?

Rubbing perfume between the wrists: this can reduce the strength of the perfume, meaning that it will dissipate more quickly. Additionally, rubbing between the wrists warms the perfume and can change its scent. (Friction affects the molecular composition of the perfume, consequently altering its fragrance.)

HOW TO PROPERLY STORE PERFUME?

We do not store bottles in direct light. Do not expose perfume to high temperatures. Similar to sunlight, heat can also damage the chemical bonds in the perfume. Do not expose perfume to moisture. In a humid environment, perfume can lose its quality more quickly. The most ideal place for storing perfumes is a dry and dark space.
